Dredging International

Overview

Dredging International (Australia) Pty Ltd is a member of the Belgian dredging and environmental group DEME. They operate a modern, multi-functional and varied fleet of 90 large dredges and some 200 auxiliary vessels. The company employs a 4,000 strong workforce. DEME is active worldwide. In 2011, DEME completed projects in 50 countries on all continents.

Wheatstone Scope of Work

The dredging contract was awarded to Dredging International Australia Pty Ltd and will be executed in cooperation with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Oak Brook, Illinois – USA. Works include dredging of the 17-km-long approach channel, the manoeuvring and loading area, the berth pockets and the tug harbor. The total dredged volume will exceed 26 million m³ of material and the works will be executed under strict environmental conditions.

A large seagoing self-propelled cutter suction dredge (CSD), a medium trailing suction hopper dredge (TSHD) and a backhoe dredge (BHD) will be deployed to execute the works. This main dredging equipment will be supported with a series of tugs, dump barges and auxiliary equipment.

The dredging contract started in January 2012 and is expected to be completed by March 2016.
